Q. In Genesis 5, why are Cain and Abel not shown in the “Generations of Adam”?
The genealogy that the guide of Genesis describes as the “Generations of Adam” is not meant to list all of his descendants. Instead, it traces a single line of his descent, the 1 that potential customers to Noah, who will become the main character in the narrative right just after this genealogy. Right after the story of Noah, there is yet another genealogy, the “Generations of Shem” (Noah’s son), which traces one line of his descent, the one particular that prospects to Abraham, who who gets to be the major character in the narrative proper right after it. And so forth. That is how the ebook of Genesis is structured. I hope this explanation is handy.
